Kent Road Trees
Jul 5 2008, 3:33 AM EDT
Two of us went up to the site with the community tree officer, Moira Walker, to discuss tree planting at the top of Kent Road. There were 5 other people there, most of whom live on the spur of Kent Rd (ie outside the triangle!). All were very keen on tree planting. We looked through catalogues and Moira was keen to accommodate ideas. It seems there are at least 6 and probably more trees we could have. We stressed fruit trees, possibly a walnut and trees with nice autumn colours. We also looked at the site and discussed where to plant. Moira is now going to see what she can purchase and organise a tree plenting event later in the year. I also asked her: 1) if we could plant tees at the junction of Albert and Shirebrook road. She said she would look into whether it woud interfere with cables/ pipes etc and get back to us. 2) If she could get a replacement flowering cherry for the one that was stolen from Kent rd garden. She thought she probably could. I am sure Moira would be hapy to come along to any of our meetings to follow up on other ideas and queries we were airing last time. (GT Emails 04/10/07)

Can I put in a plea for walnut, as they grow very quickly and are great climbing trees - would be good to have a climbing tree on that patch as well as the smaller fruit trees (24/10/08)

I’m a bit surprised we're not going for native species. Have we thought through (anti)vandalism? (24/10/08)

Good point - I've always assumed it's the end of Kent Rd near Carfield School where there's been a lot of work on a garden (between Upper Valley Rd and Argyle Rd - might be wrong. G

I think this is about the trees that got planted on the green space, last Autumn, at the top of Shirebrook and left along Kent. Some of us went to help plant them. We'd also started to talk about more trees being planted on the triangle - I dont know how far this got.
